Tropical Storm Isaac Should Rival Hurricane Katrina

Forbes -- On August 24th, we warned on Forbes that Tropical Storm Isaac could pose a threat to energy markets and even rival Hurricane Katrina in its destructive power (Could Tropical Storm Isaac Turn Into Another Katrina?). While the computer models are still showing a substantial spread in solutions, it appears more likely that Isaac will make landfall somewhere near the Louisiana, Mississippi Gulf Coast. This track will provide the storm more time to intensify over the very warm water of the Gulf of Mexico.
The entire Gulf Coast from Lake Charles, LA to Panama City, FL should be aware of the latest forecast model guidance. The reason for this large spread is because the computer models are split between whether a trough will capture Isaac or not. As of 8AM Sunday morning, it appears Isaac wil

Will never know what a Tropical Storm or a Hurricane will do until its been done. Be prepared: have extra food (and a way to cook your food), water, extra fuel and be ready to leave if it gets bad enough.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

jcpatriots:

while it is true that katrina was a strong cat 3 at landfall, it was originally labeled a cat 4-while in the gulf, katrina was a cat 5..

before making landfall the winds had "weakened" to 130mph, making it the strongest cat 3 possible, but the storm surge did not have enough time or space to weaken..the surge was of a cat 5 variety, removing things that needed removing, but also removing things that shouldn't have been removed-my cousin's house and her mother's house were two of those things..

they lived in pascaguola, ms about 20 feet above high tide levels, on a piece of land that jutted out into a creek, about 2 miles from the gulf-the storm surge reached 25 feet at their houses..needless to say, both houses were destroyed, and they were not allowed to rebuilt on that site..

so dying cat 5 hurricanes still inflict more damage than whatever the cat level is when they come ashore, when they are close, or in shallow water like the gulf is in that area..

i don't think isaac stands much more chance than a landfalling cat 2-at least i hope it doesn't..my kin are still in pascaguola..

Oh no! I still hope it's no where nearly as bad as Katrina. Has the city truly been properly restored to withstand any storm as bad as Katrina was?

Being a category 1 but moving at 10 MPH will mean that when it hits the coast, it will be stronger. Time to leave those areas - get away from the coast and go west.

The National GasBuddy Oil and Gasoline Forecast Service has issued a HURRICANE WARNING!!

Tropical storm Isaac is forecast to intensify into a hurricane and is expected to create a "Speculator Storm Surge" in the coming days... triggering oil and gasoline price spikes. Consumers who panic actually help cause fuel shortages and add to the severity of retail gasoline price spikes, slowing down the recovery process. Consumers may feel insecure and create a stampede to the gas stations and convenience stores.

This forecast also includes a "CONSUMER ANGER ALERT" that is expected to follow the "Speculator Storm Surge."

GasBuddy Reporter PD in a plea to "Speculators" said; "If you do that (drive up oil and gasoline prices), you're helping to disrupt the conventional shipment schedule of the retailers and their distributors and, in turn, you'll be contributing directly to even greater retail fuel price spikes".

"Speculators... Don't become part of the problem"

So if you hear that the local gas station just raised prices by 5 cents a gallon, that doesn't mean you have to go into panic mode and go buy gas you don't need. Relax and remember it's the "Speculators" that are helping drive the prices up.

Don't lose your head like "Speculators" do. Stay calm and that will help keep any local or regional fuel supply problems to a minimum, instead of turning a little problem into a much bigger one that "Speculators" are known to do.

Be Prepared... Be Safe... God Bless You... You are in our Prayers...

Katrina was a strong CAT 3 at landfall, despite popular belief it was a CAT 5. I doubt Isaac will be anywhere near as destructive as Katrina, though.

Sounds more like advance hype just like what Obama got to get elected the first time. With the help of God, we will get rid of both of these problems with minimal further issues.

Offshore production is shut down so that will lead to less inventory.

New Orleans, by the sound of the local media there, is more prepared than it was 7 years ago.
