The Beauty Of Natural Gas Transportation

Seeking Alpha -- Natural gas is a beautiful fuel and should not simply be lumped in the same "fossil fuel" category as oil and coal. Let's take a look at some of the advantages of natural gas and why natural gas transportation is the key to America's #1 economic problem: its 58% dependence of foreign oil imports.

The advantages of natural gas are fairly well known:

Natural gas is abundant.
Natural gas is cheap.
Natural gas is a domestic fuel.
Natural gas is clean.
Combined with our 2 million plus natural gas pipeline distribution system, our abundant natural gas reserves are the #1 economic advantage the U.S. has against every other country on Earth.
Combined with NGVs, natural gas is the only domestic fuel capable of significantly reducing foreign oil imports by, say, 5,000,000 b

Natural Gas is one of many fuels available to supply the transportation and personal vehicle industry. Natural Gas, Gasoline, Diesel, Renewable Energy, Alternative fuels, etc. etc. to name a few. A vehicle that can run on more than one fuel or 3 or 4 different fuels, then you have a choice as to what fuel to use and is the cheapest fuel choice at the time. If there are many more vehicles using natural gas than other fuels, then the price of CNG could go up fast.
Natural Gas Honda Civic GX available since 1988.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

great thing about natural gas, or Methane, is you can get it from renewable bio sources as well as by drilling and fracking. A farm I know processes 140 tons of cow and pig dung every week to get methane to run all their vehicles, heat their buildings, and power generators for electricity. Using cow farts for power is less a greenhouse gas contributer than letting the gas go, and saves money.

It would be nice if they could use more of this natural gas in a vehicle that would be affordable by the average consumer.

@knot2swift

you think YOU have sponges?..49% of the population here pay NO federal income tax, yet receive all the benefits of slob gov't. our 'new' healthcare system is a clusterf**k. Illinois pays fuel taxes near the highest in the country, but the funds get diverted to...?.

up the refiners...

We're screwed by gas taxes in Canada but you can come and visit but if you bust you back, we'll take care of you.

You won't lose an arm and a leg getting your back fixed here.

What really pisses me off is sponges on our system.

When, if ever, will there be a nationwide infrastructure so people can refuel their NGVs in as many places as they can a gasoline engine? How much would this additional infrastructure cost to get in place?

American vehicle makers are missing this market! Also, natural gas vehicles would earn them credits toward mileage standards.

The frackers considered it a waste nuisance and are burning it as a byproduct of their production.

And what rfm1892 said - it is only cheap now because it is under-utilized. The more use and demand the higher the price will rise.
