Shell reaches tentative deal with refinery workers

The Associated Press -- DALLAS -- The United Steelworkers union and Shell Oil have as announced a tentative deal on a new three-year contract covering Shell refinery workers across the United States.

The deal was announced in statements issued by the two sides Tuesday night, hours before a midnight Tuesday deadline to reach a new agreement or risk a strike.

The tentative deal must still be ratified by the 30,000 workers it covers at 168 workplaces across the nation, including 69 refineries representing about 64 percent of the nation's refining capacity.

The deal also will be used as the model for other refiners such as Exxon Mobil, Marathon, Valero and ConocoPhillips to match.

The USW is North America's largest industrial union with about 850,000 members in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.

does that mean prices at the pumps are dropping now that a Dutch company has settled American labor disputes?

But how long will it last, in the world of Obuma and the dumocrats running everything, their main goal is to bring America to its knees and try to make us like Europe - weak.

Good news for all parties that there will not be a strike. That would be a loser for the consumer, and the workers especially.

I am glad they are working towards an agreement. They certainly have a lot of workers for 168 workplaces. I do not think this is the reason for rising gas prices. I think it is speculation on Wall Street.

.
So the United Steelworkers Union ruined the US Steel industry and now they are out to destroy the Refinery Industry which the whole economy is based on. And who said Unions were not to powerful? Unions have out lived ANY useful purpose other then to fleece the Tax Payers. They need to be banned, period.

The striking worker in today's economic turmoil is putting himself at risk especially in the West. The EU's problems will be solved by Berlin and then watch the big dog on the porch run off Britain and the U.S. That will leave the German led EU, the Asian alliance of China, Japan, Russia and eventually India and the Middle East cartel led by Iran.

No one in the West can afford to strike, the party's over.

ONCE AGAIN, THE TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED WITH SHELL OIL HAS NOTHING 2 DO WITH RAISE'IN GAS PRICES ALREADY ! BIG OIL DOESN'T NEED ANY REASON 2 RAISE PRICES. ITS NOT HOW MUCH REFINERY WORKERS MAKE, OUR WAGES ARE A VERY , VERY SMALL DROP IN THE BUCKET. THESE COMPANYS MAKE BILLIONS EVERY QTR. IF YOUR COMPANY MAKES A PROFIT, @ CONTRACT TIME U EXPECT 2 SEE A RAISE TOO, OR BONUS.LAST YEAR GAS PRICES WENT TO THEIR HIGHEST LEVELS, HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE UNION OR WAGES, IT WAS BIG OIL GREED, PEROID. IF WE LOSE THE UNIONS, WE LOSE THE MIDDLE CLASS.WE'LL ALL BE WORKING 4 $8.00 hr. AND COLLECT'IN FOOD STAMPS.

What's the deal? Higher prices, I'm sure. That's the outcome even if the pay scale was reduced to a tenth of what it formerly was.
