You are right about the fine being more than the parking meter fee. Makes "cents"

Thanks for your note. I agree with your premise in general as it applies to measuring regulatory conformance - in any regulation. However, if you dig deeper into the red light camera issue you will find it is a fiasco and a fraud. Cities have shortened the yellow duration by 1-2 seconds to increase revenue - with the recommendation of the camera manufacturers - when revenues did not meet desired levels. This is entrapment and in fact increased the number of rear end accidents. Also just read the literature from the manufacturers and it becomes clear that safety is only a canard - the real sales proposition for the manufacturers is NOT safety - it is revenue creation - period - I know because I have been involved in this from the pure safety standpoint.

I don't believe in running red lights. I do think that the green phase should be longer, it takes the line a few sec. to start on each cycle. They also should have slightly longer yellows. I just object to the way the tickets are served and that I can't face my accuser. Red light cameras do improve safety a little, which helps, but they are mostly about the money. One here in Tucson actually helped them catch a serial car thief, an unexpected bonus. Warren {:-)

I have no objection to the red light camera accept the real reason for their existence. They are revenue generators and it is hard to fight a machine in court. Shortening the yellow light increases revenue. The safety concept I do not think holds water. The automated machine is that a machine. If we were having machines on trial, then I favor the red light cameras. We are human. Lets keep it that way. By the way there are no red light cameras in Minot, ND.

I appreciate your feelings on the red light cameras. But I am also tired of going into a panic when I get the yellow light as I am about to enter the intersection. I don't believe sxafety was in their minds when they came up with this idea... it's another method of taxing us. I am neither Lib or Conserv. I am just tired of this state taxing us like crazy.
